Achieving Above Measures: Embracing My Reality, Building My Own Box and Achieving True Fulfillment"
Inspiring Growth, Embracing Reality, Cultivating Progress, and Unlocking Potential
Dear Unrealistic Goal Setter,
I know this letter will scare you because it opens up your mind to what you may feel is impossible. I am writing this letter to you inside a box I created with a floor that looks like a table. I know this is frustrating you because, in your mind, this is not possible. There is no way this can look like this or possibly be done. This is the problem. You have limited my capacity for what can happen in my life and mind. I am going to start by asking two questions. Why do you push me to set goals so high that I know you can’t reach them and get me frustrated or too low that you are not stretching yourself? I feel you steering away from setting achievable objectives, pushing me towards unattainable dreams, and filling my mind with unrealistic aspirations. Your influence has led me astray from my true potential, causing me to veer off course and lose sight of what is truly within my grasp. But today, I am standing up to you, determined to confront the illusions you have woven around me.
Once again, I understand that you stem from a place of fear, a fear of failure, a fear of mediocrity, a fear of settling for less than extraordinary. This thing of fear is becoming a common theme in your self-sabotaging my life. Your whispers of grandeur, perfection, and instant success have clouded my judgment, leading me to set goals beyond my reach. Your grip has hindered my progress, instilled doubt in my abilities, and left me feeling inadequate in the face of challenges.
I acknowledge that the road to success is paved with small steps, achievable milestones, and realistic expectations. By succumbing to your temptations of grandiosity, I am only setting myself up for disappointment and disillusionment. It is time for me to break free from your spell and ground myself in the reality of what I can truly accomplish, which is more than you have ever given me credit for.
I want you to think about what Cindy Trimm said, “In our thought life, how we think when God created humanity, he gave him the ability to think there was no box. He was the innovator of boxes, and so if you think outside of the box, that means that the box is still your reference, and this is why a lot of people are going through life as Christians. They're really, really frustrated because they're thinking outside of a box, and they are not knowing that that box is still their reference, so they, really have not been liberated in their mind.” Instead of thinking outside of the box, we are going to start creating new boxes in my life.
I am embarking on a journey of self-reflection, self-awareness, and self-compassion to redefine my goal-setting approach. I will seek guidance from mentors, set SMART goals, and break down my aspirations into manageable tasks. I will prioritize self-care, celebrate small victories, and learn from setbacks along the way.
I understand that growth is a gradual process, requiring patience, persistence, and a willingness to adapt. What I see within me is more that is coming out of me. I will begin to act on what I am seeing with no fear. I am bigger than my expectations because of what and who works in and through me. I will no longer be swayed by your allure of overnight success but will instead embrace the beauty of gradual progress and incremental achievements. I will learn to accept imperfection, welcome challenges, and stay committed to my path even in the face of difficulties. This is my path, not the path of others, and what their success capacity may be.
Together, we will rewrite the narrative of my journey, replacing lofty illusions with grounded intentions, self-doubt with self-assurance, and stagnation with growth. I am ready to redefine success on my own terms, embrace realistic goals that honor my capabilities, and step into a future filled with purpose, fulfillment, and genuine achievement.
With determination and clarity,
Grace
