Dear Sisterfriend,
In a world that often glorifies busyness and constant productivity, rest can feel like a luxury we don’t have time for. But the truth is, rest isn’t just a luxury—it’s essential. It’s the foundation for healing, renewal, and the strength we need to keep moving forward. Rest is a gift we must give ourselves, not out of indulgence, but out of necessity.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." This beautiful promise reminds us that rest is not just about physical rejuvenation; it is about surrendering our burdens to God, allowing Him to refresh our hearts, minds, and souls. Rest is a divine invitation to pause, to breathe, and to let go of the weight we’ve been carrying.
Too often, we push ourselves beyond our limits, thinking that we have to keep going, keep striving, keep producing. We wear our exhaustion like a badge of honor, forgetting that we were never meant to run on empty. But just as the earth needs seasons of rest to produce life, so do we.
Ask yourself:
When was the last time I truly rested—without guilt, without feeling the need to be "productive"?
What would happen if I gave myself permission to pause, to slow down, and to recharge?
How can I incorporate moments of rest and self-care into my daily life, not just when I’m completely exhausted?
Rest isn’t just about sleep (though that’s important!). It’s about creating space for yourself to breathe, to reflect, and to heal. It’s about allowing your mind and body to reset, so that you can return to your life with renewed energy and a clear sense of purpose. It’s in the quiet moments of rest that we often find the clarity we’ve been searching for.
Healing, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, requires rest. Just as a wound needs time to heal without constant interference, our hearts and minds need time to heal from the stresses, hurts, and demands of life. By allowing ourselves to rest, we give our bodies and spirits the space they need to recover and grow stronger.
Self-care is not selfish; it’s essential. It’s recognizing that in order to show up fully for the people and responsibilities in our lives, we must first take care of ourselves. When we rest, we are refilling our cup, so that we can pour into others from a place of fullness, not depletion.
Today, I encourage you to embrace rest as a necessary part of your journey. Let go of the pressure to always be "on" or to constantly achieve. Trust that in the stillness, you are being restored. Give yourself permission to take a break—whether that means stepping away for a few hours, spending quiet time with God, or simply doing something that brings you joy and peace.
Remember, rest is a gift from God, a reminder that you are human and that you are worthy of care. When you take time to rest, you are honoring your body, your mind, and your spirit. You are giving yourself the space to heal, to reflect, and to emerge stronger and more centered.
So today, I invite you to rest. Rest in God’s presence, knowing that He is taking care of you. Rest in the knowledge that you don’t have to carry everything on your own. Rest, knowing that by taking care of yourself, you are becoming the best version of who you are meant to be.
With love, peace, and rest,
Grace
