The Price of Unfulfilled Potential
Understanding the Importance of Living Your Purpose
Dear Sisterfriend,
I hope this letter finds you reflecting on the path before you. Today, I want to talk to you about the significance of walking in your purpose and the potential cost of not embracing the unique calling that God has placed on your life. Every one of us has been created with a specific purpose, a divine assignment that only we can fulfill. When we choose not to walk in that purpose, the cost can be far greater than we realize.
First and foremost, not walking in your purpose can lead to a deep sense of unfulfillment. No matter how successful you may appear on the outside, if you are not aligned with the purpose God has for you, there will always be a sense of something missing.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us, "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart."
That longing in your heart is a reminder that you are meant for something greater, something eternal.
Choosing not to walk in your purpose can result in missed opportunities. The unique gifts, talents, and passions that God has given you are meant to be used for His glory and to bless others. When you neglect your purpose, you may miss out on the opportunities to impact the lives of those you were meant to help.
Ephesians 2:10 reminds us, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Those good works are waiting for you, and only you can accomplish them.
Furthermore, not living in your purpose can lead to feelings of frustration and stagnation. You may find yourself going through the motions of life, but lacking the joy and excitement that comes from pursuing something meaningful.
Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails."
When we try to live outside of God’s purpose for us, we often find that our plans don’t bring the satisfaction we hoped for.
Another cost of not walking in your purpose is the potential impact on others. Your purpose is not just about you; it’s about the lives you are meant to touch, the people you are meant to inspire, and the change you are meant to bring to the world.
Matthew 5:16 encourages us, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
When you don’t walk in your purpose, the light that you are meant to shine in the world is dimmed, and others may be affected by the absence of your influence.
Not walking in your purpose can also lead to a loss of spiritual growth. When you embrace your purpose, you are challenged to grow, to trust God more deeply, and to rely on His strength and guidance. James 1:4 tells us, "Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." Walking in your purpose is a journey that strengthens your faith and deepens your relationship with God.
Finally, the greatest cost of not walking in your purpose is the potential regret of a life not fully lived.
At the end of our lives, what we will remember most is not the material achievements, but the impact we made, the lives we touched, and the fulfillment of living out the calling God gave us. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 expresses this beautifully, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day." Don’t let the fear of stepping into your purpose keep you from the joy of finishing your race well.
You are a remarkable woman, created with a unique purpose that only you can fulfill. Walking in that purpose may be challenging at times, but the rewards far outweigh the costs. Embrace the journey, trust in God’s plan, and know that living in your purpose is the key to a life of true fulfillment, impact, and peace.
With all my love and encouragement,
Grace
